Welcome to Salzburg Guitar Festival

Dear Friends,

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the first Salzburg Guitar Festival, which will run from May 24 – 27, 2017, using among other spaces the beautiful Solitaer of the Universitaet Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Wiener Saal of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg.

The Festival will offer a fabulous concert series, master classes taught by some of the great pedagogues in the guitar world today, a competition for guitar performance, seminars and discussion forums and as much cross disciplinary interaction as possible.

A major emphasis of the festival will be an effort to give young musicians help and inspiration in starting their own careers in music.

The Festival is made possible by generous support from the Unviersitaet Mozarteum and from our founding sponsors.

However, it will be administered almost entirely by young people, who will thus be preparing their own future as active musicians trying to transform the world through the international language of music, the “holde Kunst” of Schubert’s famous Lied. .

Of course, we also want to welcome music lovers and aficionados of all ages to join our effort to keep music human and fun, and to celebrate our shared humanity in a time when so many sinister forces all around the world threaten to tear us apart.

Our goal is to welcome many new friends and to extend still further the big extended family of the guitar that we already enjoy here in Salzburg.

However, we recognize that we are a work in progress.

So, to anyone reading this: this is YOUR festival! We dreamt this festival up; but we want to keep improving it. We welcome new ideas from whatever source!
Please feel free to contact us with your thoughts and concerns, your dreams and hopes and we will try to turn those suggestions into reality as we move forward with this noble endeavor.

Warmest greetings once again and as Shakespeare once wrote:

“If music be the food of love, play on!”
